Dostoyevsky once wrote one can
measure the degree of civilization in a society by
entering its prisons. The fact that someone has made
a mistake does not mean they should be subject to
brutal and inhumane treatment. Our office continues
to represent prisoners who have been subjected to
inhumane treatment ranging from refusal to provide
appropriate medical services, denial of the right
to worship or practice one’s religion, and in
some instances being brutally beaten by correctional
officers who simply did not receive proper training
and supervision in their jobs.
